3 types to know, 3 types we offer at TIA
- Viral RNA Tests
- Antigen Test
- Antibody Test
1) Viral RNA Tests

2) Viral Antigen Test

Antigen
This point of care test uses a nasal swab specimen that detects a specific protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This is a lateral flow assay which provides results in about 15 minutes. This test is recommended for anyone not needing a PCR level of sensitivity. Antigen tests are considered a screening, but not definitive.
3) Antibody Test - Tests for past Infection and Immunity

Antibody
On site venipuncture (blood draw) specimen collected sent to Alpha Tulsa lab for processing. This testing solution detects the historical presence of Covid-19 by detecting the IgG antibody for the SARS-Cov-2 virus. This test is a serum-base (blood draw) specimen that we process at our high complexity laboratory. Results from this test are expected back within 24 hours of delivery of the specimen to Alpha lab.
The timing of your test will determine which test to schedule.

A) Incubation Period
The first 3-5 days after the virus enters your body, is called the Incubation Period. During this period, it is likely ALL tests will return a negative result.
B) Infection Period
10 Days within symptoms arriving, you are at your most contagious. This called the Infection Period. During this time, Viral RNA and Antigen tests will likely return a positive result and antibody tests will likely return a negative result.
C) Immune Response Period
Nearing 12-14 days after symptoms arrive, you enter the Immune Response Period. During this time, Antibody tests will likely return a positive result and Viral RNA and Antigen tests will likely return negative results.
